Adopted by many women, manicure is a beauty ritual that is an integral part of wellness routines.
Whether for a French manicure, nail art or false nails, the use of nail polish is essential.
USE AND STAYING POWER: WHICH NAIL POLISH SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?
There are different types of nail polish, corresponding to different lengths of wear:
- Classic nail polish: very easy to apply and remove.
Lasts about 1 week.
Examples of brands: Chanel, Dior, Essie, Pronails...
- Semi-permanent nail polish: applied in several coats, which are then dried with a UV lamp. Semi-permanent nail polish is a combination of classic nail polish and gel.
Lasts between 2 and 3 weeks.
Examples of brands: OPI, Peggy Sage, Le Mini Macaron...
- UV gel nail polish: gel can be applied directly to natural nails or over capsules to extend nail length. Applying gel nail polish strengthens the nails.
L asts for about 3 to 4 weeks.
Brands: NYK1, IBD, Ocibel...
Among the different types of nail polish, there are natural and vegan polishes: responsible and in principle free from toxic substances, they have no ingredients of animal origin and are not tested on animals. Example brands: Kure Bazaar, So'Bio Ethic, Boho Green Make-up, Manucurist, My Paris, Mavala, Orijinal...
Better for the planet and the body, natural nail polishes are enjoying a certain success. This is because many questions are being asked about the composition of cosmetic products, and nail polish in particular.
HOW LONG CAN YOU KEEP YOUR NAIL POLISH?
Nail polishes have a limited shelf life. As a general rule, they have an AOP (after-opening period) of between 12 and 24 months.
However, depending on how they are stored, nail varnishes can deteriorate over time and lose their quality. There are a number of warning signs, such as:
- Color change due to solvent volatilization
- Difficulty in application: dry, pasty nail polish
- A texture that settles or hardens
- An unpleasant smell
HOW TO STORE NAIL POLISH IN THE BEST CONDITIONS?
Tired of nail polish that turns to paste after just a few weeks? Here are a few tips to help you make the most of them:
- Clean bottle necks regularly
Once opened, it is important to clean the neck of the bottle thoroughly. Thick, dry matter often forms around the neck of the nail polish, altering its composition. To avoid this, we recommend regular cleaning with a handkerchief or absorbent cotton.
- Store them vertically
Nail polish lying in a box or drawer will tend to run and create a thick, dry material at the neck. It will then be more difficult to open. That's why it's important to store your nail polish in an upright position.
- Shake before use
It's important to shake your nail polish well before use. This will ensure that the pigments mix properly and the polish doesn't thicken.
Tip: if you don't hear the little ball inside your nail polish when you shake it, it's unusable.
- Use a nail polish thinner
Is your nail polish getting too thick or too dry? You can add a little nail polish thinner (specifically designed for this purpose) to your bottle. It's a miracle remedy that will bring your product back to life and save you money too...
- Store in a cool, dark place.
By placing them in the right environment, they retain their effectiveness.
The Refrigerated Beauty Box is just the place! Thanks to its ventilated cooling, thermostat and optimal temperature of 10°C, your favorite nail polishes retain their properties over time. The result: their texture is supple and they're easy to apply.
Practical, this patented mini cosmetics fridge is 100% silent. It also features a touchscreen for adjusting the temperature between 8°C and 14°C, and for switching from day to night mode in the blink of an eye.
WHERE TO DISPOSE OF YOUR NAIL POLISH?
Has your nail polish become unusable or is your bottle empty?
- If your bottle is not finished, it contains solvents which make it highly flammable. Do not put it in your regular garbage can, but dispose of it at a waste disposal center.
- If it's empty, rinse the bottle and dispose of it in the glass waste garbage can for recycling. As for the cap, you can dispose of it in your regular garbage can.
